More About Narcissism

The Life of a Narcissist

A narcissist demonstrates an extreme need for admiration and attention, always seeking external validation from others. Narcissists do not truly love themselves. They feel empty inside and even feel shame and self-loathing at their core.

They act in hurtful ways, like putting their partner down, so that they can feel good about themselves. They convince themselves of their own ill-perceived inflated self-image. This creates a false sense of confidence (even to themselves).

Narcissists endlessly use other PEOPLE (their attention, praise, subservience), THINGS (having a fancy car, house, money, etc.) or STATUS (a prestigious job, recognition for doing something) to obtain "narcissistic supply", in order to feel good (temporarily) about themselves.

The Life of a Narcissist’s Partner

  • It seems like you have lost yourself.
  • You are pulled into constant painful dynamics, without conflicts ever getting resolved.
  • It's like this person has taken over and moved into your head space. You wonder what happened to your own thoughts, feelings, desires, needs and goals?
  • It seems you are always having to defend yourself in endless arguments.
  • You feel misunderstood much of the time and may be accused of being selfish and oversensitive.
  • When you bring up your own needs, you are perceived as being on the attack.
  • You feel confused, baffled and powerless.
  • Your life force has been drained out of you.
  • You feel beaten up, even without any physical violence.
  • Your overall confidence level has gone down.
  • You are miserable so much of the time.

IF YOU CAN RELATE
to any of the above and are either struggling with abusive dynamics right now or still needing to heal from what has happened in the past...
